Bex and Em talk Animals and Adventures with Heidi: Rescue of the Lynx writer Rob Sprackling!!!

Heidi goes on an adventure in the Swiss Alps in this film. If you could explore any place in the world where would it be and who would you take with you? (Bex age 13)

Rob Sprackling – I would go to Australia to see my 23 year old son who went travelling there last year. My mum grew up there too. I’d take my wife Anna and would like to take our silly dog Puffin because she would love the beaches – but I think it would be a bit too far for her on a plane!

Have you ever met a real life Lynx? (Emily age 10)

Rob Sprackling – Only in a zoo! But I love cats and we had a gorgeous ginger one called Herbie who looked a bit like a lynx kitten!

If you could save one animal from being extinct which one would you help and why? (Bex age 13)

Rob Sprackling – I like Rhinos because they seem to be all tough, mean and grumpy on the outside but on the inside they are really quite sweet and vulnerable.

My Mum and Dad used to watch Heidi on TV when they were little. Why do you think Heidi has stood the test of time? (Emily age 10)

Rob Sprackling – Good question Emily. Yes the TV series was very popular across the world back in the 1970s, 80s and 90s and the original book even goes back to 1880! I think it is because Heidi represents timeless qualities like kindness, fun and adventure – all set in a simple, natural world. It is something we want to hang on to perhaps, especially now when our lives are so surrounded by technology.

What made you want to make a sequel to Heidi? (Emily age 10)

Rob Sprackling – Everyone loves the original story but it has been told lots of times. We wanted to keep all the wonderful things about the original, like the amazing world of the Swiss Alps and the fun, lovable characters of Dorfli, but tell a new story for a new generation.

If you could write a sequel to another classic book like you did with Heidi, what would it be and why? (Bex age 13)

Rob Sprackling – Nice one Bex! I wrote a film called Gnomeo & Juliet once which was a comic re-telling of the tragic Shakespeare play Romeo & Juliet (but with gnomes)! I also like Charles Dickens books so maybe one of them? With a lynx in it!
