Simba, Mufasa, Nala, Scar, Timon and Pumbaa have topped the US Box Office, as the jewel in the Walt Disney Studios crown, The Lion King 3D opened at #1 across US cinemas this weekend taking over $30 million at the box office, making The Lion King the third highest-grossing animated film of all time.
The release of The Lion King 3D marks the fifth biggest September opening in industry history, the second biggest September opening in Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures history, and the first reissue to open #1 in 14 years.
In the UK, The Lion King, roars into theatres nationwide in breathtaking Disney Digital 3D™ on 7th October, kicking off a 4 week theatrical extravaganza showcasing the Oscar® and Golden Globe® winning film on the big screen in 3D for the first time ever.
The film’s release in theatres allows millions of fans, old and new, to visit Pride Rock in all its 3D splendour as one of Disney’s best loved animations proved that it is still The King. This beloved story has continued to defy boundaries throughout its 17 years and as audiences enjoy the adventures of Simba in an all-new dimension, a whole new generation is experiencing the timeless tale on the big screen for the first time. They will join the millions of fans who fell in love with the characters, story and amazing animation along with the award-winning soundtrack when it was first released.
The celebrations will continue as the highly anticipated home entertainment debuts on 7th November, celebrating the Diamond Edition release of the epic masterpiece in spine tingling high-definition Disney Blu-ray™, Disney 3D Blu-ray and DVD along with a special Triple Pack featuring The Lion King movie trilogy.
