Coffee. Because I just like the zing and the fact that it wakes me up. I like the taste of it. When it’s good.
Where were you when you found out you were going to be Doctor Who and who was the first person you called? Hag age 11
Doctor Who came in two stages. The first phone call was if I wanted to be Doctor Who. I was on the way to pick up my daughter from a non dramatic hospital visit.
When they told me, it has to go through all the levels. They can say they want you to be Doctor Who – but until it’s gone to all the Directors it’s not final. So when they finally told me that I was Doctor Who, I was in Prague filming The Musketeers. And I couldn’t tell anyone. I wasn’t aloud to.
They phoned me on the set and was in my car in my outfit – but I couldn’t say a word to anyone.
But I phoned my wife. And she was busy. So she had fifteen missed calls. But she knew because I’d left fifteen messages. The news was good!
If you could go back in time – where would you go and why would you go there? Con age 8
This changes all the time. Because it’s the most common question that I’m asked. I used to say Ancient Rome. Because that would be nice to see what that was like. Although a rather dangerous place to be I’d imagine.
Thirties New York would be fabulous with the Jazz age.
I think now it would be nice to be in the sixties. I think it would be nice to go and see The Stones and The Beatles and people like that. Every time you see….I know because I was alive in the Sixties. The swinging sixties only effected a small group of people. But when you see film of everyone they look fabulous. The way they are dressed – they looked fantastic.
Out of all the Doctors of all time who do you think had the best costume and why? Hag age 11
Best costume? Well I can’t really answer that – I think they all…..the Doctors costume has become the Holly Grail. Everybody’s looking for an artifact some thing they can merchandise. And I felt that’s not really what the costume should be about. It should be about the character. So they’re all excellent expressions of the character. I think my costumes the best!
