What’s the best footballing skills do you know? Hag age 12
Rachel Stringer – I don’t have many skills Hag, probably I would be really good at the fitness side of football. So all the drills, the warm up and the running. I’m good at running at pace but not with a ball.
Roman Kemp – Mine’s the complete opposite. I’m the person that yells out ‘just pass it’! Do you know what?! I love that I can do a lots of kick ups. A lot! It’s the first thing you practice when you’re a kid and then the skills are so much easier on top of that.
If you were a footballer – what position would you want to play and why? Con age 9
Roman Kemp – Centre back. Love it – you see the whole game. There’s no pressure in front of goal.
Rachel Stringer – I reckon I’d be a winger – I always say that. I’m fast and it helps with pace so to run around get the ball. And if I worked on my skills I’d be quite good at passing the ball into someone to finish it off for me.
If you could play for any team in the world who would you play for and why? Hag age 12
Roman Kemp – Real Madrid. Even though I’d an Arsenal fan I grew up on the Galacticos matches – Zidane, Beckham, Roberto Carlos. So that for me is even if I played for Arsenal and Real Madrid came in I would move.
Rachel Stringer – I’m not as ambitious. I would literally play for the team I’ve always supported – which is Nottingham Forrest. I’ve always gone there since a young age and my Dad is obsessed with them. He would love to watch me play for them. His Friday night football sitting there – my Dad is small town guy, he be “Yeah Rach, go Nottingham Forrest”. That’s a big deal to me!
What football team from any era do you think is the greatest team of all time and why? Con age 9
Roman Kemp – It’s got to be 2002-2003 invincible season Arsenal. 49 games unbeaten. Unheard of.
Rachel Stringer – I would have said that. The invincible’s.
Roman Kemp – or Brian Clough’s Nottingham Forrest side.
What’s the furthest distance you’ve ever scored a goal? Hag age 12
Roman Kemp – I scored one from the half way line at school once. Absolutely loved it. I was thirteen years old and it was great because it was the first game of the season and two minutes in. I was too goal scorer that year and centre mid.
Rachel Stringer – I wouldn’t be able to tell you. My Dad and Best friend would. She was actually talking about this last night. She was like “Do you remember when we used to play football together?” – my Dad was the coach. She was like “You weren’t very good”. And I was like “Yeah – I know”. She would probably say I scored a few times. But I played from when I was three till about eight and then got into running.
What’s the best football match you’ve ever watched – who played and what was the final score? Con age 9
Roman Kemp – Best I ever wanted was Liverpool in Istanbul champions league final. AC Milan versus Liverpool. AC Milan were winning 3-0 at half time – then Gerrard comes back and scores one, Smicer gets two, Alonso missed Penalty but hit the rebound in. Goes to penalties, Shevchenko misses the penalty and Jerzy Dudek wins the Champions league for Liverpool. Unbelievable.
Rachel Stringer – It was a good game. Two seasons ago – when Southampton I was there at Saint Mary’s. And they got the fastest ever hat-trick. Marney – ninety seconds or something.
